Stephen Heffington, MD

Biography and Interests

Stephen Heffington, MDDr. Stephen Heffington grew up in Nashville, Tennessee.  He graduated from Overton High School in 1992 and earned a bachelors degree from Lipscomb University in 1994.  He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis.  Dr. Heffington completed his internship in general surgery and residency in Urology and Renal Transplantation at the University of Missouri, in Columbia, Missouri.

During his residency, Dr. Heffington received advanced training in the use of lasers for surgery on the prostate, urethra, and kidney stones.  With a broad base in adult and pediatric general urology, he has built a desire to provide patients with the most modern treatments of a broad range of urologic diseases.  These include the prevention, detection, and treatment of prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and kidney cancer, as well as the treatment of incontinence, kidney stones, infertility, male reproductive and prostate disorders.

Dr. Heffington is the most experienced laparoscopic urologic surgeon in the region.  Dr. Heffington received advanced training in laparoscopy and minimally invasive surgery.    He has spent time giving presentations at national meetings and teaching training courses to practicing urologist on the removal of the kidney, ureter, and/or pelvic lymph nodes for various cancerous and non-cancerous diseases. 

Growing up on a small farm in Nashville with his 5 brothers and sisters, Dr. Heffington hopes that the values learned will help him bring a strong work ethic and common sense approach to your medical care.
